Georges Racine joined LALIVE in 2007. He is a partner of the firm as well as a director of LALIVE IN QATAR LLC. He is a dual-qualified civil and common law lawyer of North American background with in-depth knowledge of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His areas of specialisation include international projects and transactions worldwide; cross border transactions involving Qatar with LALIVE IN QATAR LLC; corporate, commercial and international business law, including projects (energy, telecoms, infrastructure), mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, joint ventures, public-private partnerships, foreign investment, privatisation, government licensing and concessions, commercial contracts, public procurement and regulation of international trade.
Georges Racine is a member of the Power Law Committee / Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) of the International Bar Association (IBA) and has participated in working sessions of the UNCTAD/WTO International Trade Centre (ITC) Pro-Bono Committee on Model International Joint Venture Agreements, of the Expert Group advising the Secretariat of the UNCITRAL on its draft legislative guide on privately financed infrastructure projects, and of UNCITRAL's Working Group I (Procurement) advising the Secretariat of UNCITRAL in the area of procurement. He is also a member of several professional associations, including the International Bar Association (IBA), the Quebec Bar, the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Ordre des Avocats de Genève (Foreign Lawyers Section), the International Law Association, the International Economic Law Society, the Swiss Private Equity and Corporate Finance Association (SECA) and the Arab-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Prior to joining LALIVE, Georges Racine was a partner in Fasken Martineau Dumoulin LLP, London (2004-2007) and in McCarthy Tétrault LLP, London, Montreal & Quebec City (1995-2004). He earlier held positions as an associate in different firms in London, Montreal, and Quebec City in Canada, and worked for the Quebec Ministry of International Affairs. He also practiced on a special international secondment with the United Nations Office in Geneva and the UNCITRAL / UNOLA (International Trade Law Branch) in Vienna.
Georges Racine holds a Diploma in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies of Geneva, an LL.M. in International Business Law from the University of Exeter, England, a Diploma in International Business Law from the Institute of International and Comparative Law from the University of San Diego in London (King's College, University of London), and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Civil Law (1985).
